Kin Kin Beads showcases handmade glass beads created by local lampworker Rob Fleming.  Rob makes glass beads using lampworking techniques developed over many centuries on the island of Murano in Venice, Italy.  

Lampworking describes the process of melting glass in an extremely hot flame and working it on a steel rod to form a bead.  Each bead is individually made and then kiln annealed. With care, these beads will become family heirlooms.

Kin Kin Beads sells traditional and contemporary glass jewellery made from Rob’s beads although loose beads are available on request or by commission.  All of the jewellery is made using quality findings (clasps, hooks, accent beads, etc) of Sterling silver or gold.

Many of the designs are based on the colours and patterns in the landscapes of the upper Noosa River, Cooloola National Park and the Great Sandy Straits.  The waters, sea-life, sands and vegetation provide the palette, forms and textures – creating the bead is the challenge.  Each bead becomes a meditation - you must be focussed in the moment and on what is happening in the flame.  

Rob also creates traditional style beads such as glass encased gold and silver leaf beads, floral beads, hearts and dotted beads.
