Meet Nadine Clark. Mother of two beautiful girls, wife, international business owner and possibly the most humble boss lady out.

Nadine broke free from the 9 till 5 trap and created the lifestyle she wanted for herself and her family. 

So how did she do it?

“It takes a lot of hard work, passion and maybe a bit of OCD,” she laughed.

Eight years ago, Nadine was working in the optical industry. She and her husband Cam both had a stable incomes to support their growing family.

Then, they both took a major risk.

Nadine started making natural soy candles as a hobby, but after discovering nobody else in Australia was using natural timber wicks, an idea sparked in her mind.

As a candle lover herself, Nadine thought about handcrafting 100% natural biodegradable soy wax candles, triple scented with wooden wicks.

“I spent many months and years trialling and testing formulas and fragrances to come up with the best quality product possible,” Nadine explained.

And by 2012, Crackling Candle Co. was born.

With her youngest daughter only five-weeks-old, a determined Nadine started selling her beloved product at the Original Eumundi Markets, and her baby girl was by her side at every market right up until she turned one.

“My girls are everything to me, so all I do in the business and in life is about them, and ultimately to give them the best of everything,” Nadine said.

Fuelled on love and pure belief in her products, Nadine took the home business from hobby to households around the nation within months.

In fact, just six months after launching Crackling Candle Co. Nadine’s husband (and biggest supporter) Cam left his good full-time job to dedicate his time to his wife’s business.

“He was in a management role and it was a huge risk giving that up,” Nadine said.

“But we knew we had created such a great product. We were both the most committed and hardest workers, so we truly believed it would work.”

And it did.

“I don’t think either of us had a single day off in the first three years of having the business!” Nadine said.

“An average working week for us was 80 to 100 hours each.”

Worth it? You bet.

“I created this business so my girls could have the best possible childhood, and so I can have more flexibility in hours to be at every school carnival, be there for every award, be home to celebrate every birthday – all the important memories.”

While it’s taken a lot of work to get there, today Nadine has not only achieved business success, but more importantly, gets to live the lifestyle she always wanted for her and her family.

“I really have to pinch myself sometimes to realise that I created this, and I am so proud by how far the business has come,” she said.

“I love that the products I have created are in thousands of people’s homes, businesses, hotel rooms and even cars for people to enjoy. I love the feedback from customers telling us they are the best or they have travelled across the country to purchase more.

“I love that scent makes memories and triggers memories. That is what keeps me passionate about creating.”

And that’s what life’s all about, treasured memories.

Because in the end, it’s not what’s in the bank account, but what’s in the heart.
